INT-ACT Project Update

8/20/2025

We’re pleased to spotlight a new initiative supported by Brain Health ARC seed funding with Sofía de la Fuente García and INT-ACT!

The project, “Evaluating the Impact of Intangible Cultural Heritage Experiences on the Wellbeing of Older Adults with Cognitive Impairment: A Pilot Study in Scotland”, will explore how immersive heritage can support wellbeing, reduce social isolation, and expand access to cultural participation in older adults.

This initiative reflects INT-ACT’s broader mission to address societal challenges through cultural heritage, with a specific case study on ageing societies, which the University of Edinburgh is leading on. By extending participation to a population that is vulnerable to social isolation and less exposed to technology, the team is promoting more inclusive approaches in heritage, technological, and health domains.

Having recently received ethics approval, recruitment will soon begin through Join Dementia Research. Data collection will then commence in Edinburgh later this year, alongside an idle exhibition for visitors to find out more.
